The Plan for ButtBuster 2001 - The Millennium
Edition
Preparation for the Trip
You should plan to dress casually. Blue jeans are acceptable attire everywhere, and you
will need a warn coat, gloves, and some kind of boots for non-snowmobile times. Plan
your clothing so that you can dress in layers, adding or subtracting as the day and
activities demand.
Snowmobile clothing is provided in our package, but there are a few extra things you'll
need:
 |
The helmets have face shields, but you
still need a face mask. The style doesn't matter - eye holes
are a BIG PLUS. My face mask was warn out by the end of the
trip. I mean totally ripped to shreds from pulling it on and off
multiple times a day for 6 days. |
|
 |
Mittens are provided in the clothing package, but I prefer
gloves over mittens for freedom of movement. You can pick up a nice pair of ski gloves
that will work fine. Make sure that they are heavy. Your hands and fingers
get VERY cold with the wind chill from 35MPH at 15 degrees. |
|
 |
A ski hat is important and will be warn inside the helmet.
I'll also come in handy when you're walking around town. Leave off the little ball at the
top, I'll just be in the way. |
|
 |
A wool scarf will keep wind from blowing down your neck, but
isn't absolutely necessary. |
|
 |
You'll also want to bring long underwear
(men AND women), and
warm socks. |
|
 |
A few chemical heaters come in handy when your hands or toes
get cold. You can find these at any sporting goods store. |
|
 |
A VERY important item of clothing is sunglasses. The sun
reflecting off the snow will blind you in a hurry. |
|
Last trip my snowmobile dress consisted of long underwear, jeans, sweatshirt, two pairs
of medium thickness athletic socks, a scarf, a face mask, and a ski hat. Over this went
the one piece snowmobile suite, heavy snowmobile boots, my ski gloves, and helmet and face
shield.
We will be spending three nights away from the hotel on our journey around Yellowstone
Park. You'll have to carry clothing, toiletries, etc. on the snowmobile with you. I
suggest you buy a small bag that can be strapped (bring a few bungies) to the back of the
snowmobile. The key here is to pack light - nothing extra. You'll need clothing for
three days. Last trip Patricia and I shared a single bag since we only had one snowmobile
between us.
Saturday - The adventure begins.
